Christopher’s mom had these letter cutters that were still in their packaging and… we permanently borrowed them. I had the idea of writing funny or inspirational things with them on food and making these word bowls!
Our history with Word Bowls
The first one we ever made was kinda lame but, you know, we all need to start somewhere. It said “Hello 2017” on it. From there, we started sharing word bowls with messages that were important to us. Animals Aren’t Ours. Friends Not Food. Be Kind. Be Cool, Not Cruel…you get the idea. Turns out that our smoothie bowls are a great way to start conversations!
For when you just need to vent
And then there’s sassy toast. Life’s not always flowers and sunshine. Sometimes you just need to let things out. Right? For me… this typically comes in the form of avocado toast with something ridiculous written on it. If you’ve got any suggestions, send ’em my way! I love a good laugh.
Smoothie bowl 101
When it comes to building smoothie word bowls, it’s pretty simple. For the base, we normally just use a few frozen bananas and a handful of other frozen fruits depending on the colour or flavour we’re feeling. We use a Vitamix, and keep the mixture pretty thick. It it’s too liquidy, your letters will sink!
In terms of the letters, I usually prefer to make them a little bit on the thicker side. I find they pop more like that, but it’s just a personal preference. You do you! We’ve done banana letters, watermelon letters, cantaloupe letters, and most often, dragon fruit letters. There’s for sure other fruit that would work great!
Word Bowls are fun!
If you’re like me and you need a little dimension in your food, put granola at the bottom of your bowl before adding in the smoothie. You won’t regret it! It ends up tasting like dessert, but for breakfast.
If you have any ideas for word bowls, don’t be shy to send them our way!
